Thought For The Day…

Isn’t it interesting that it’s not atheism or agnosticism that slows us down as Christ followers?  The truth is our fire is fueled when we come up against them.
But, isn’t it also interesting that the thing that slows down our effectiveness the most or stifles our freedom as a follower is the thing that looks like following Christ, but isn’t?    RELIGION

  1. maybe that’s why Jesus hated it too!!! we need to wake up. too much of what we do is the R word. we’ve gotten used to it so much, it doesn’t even bother us anymore. yet God hates it.
He desires a relationship with me and you. something we do out of love and not duty.
rock on, Larry Boy! – you’d have to watch Veggie Tales to know this name…hehe

  2. The Pharisees were religious. They kept the law to a fault. They were so religious they didn’t see Jesus as the Messiah. I think this year I’ve learned that all that matters is knowing Jesus and our relationship with Him. In the end, that is all there is. Jesus is the Hope that the world needs.

  3. Are we too far gone when following is more of what we “do” than who we “are?”
This dude last night at Guitar Center was “trying” to explain to my musically virgin mind learning to play guitar and finding the notes…he told me “Man, what happens is this…. you do it over and over and over and over and you gain “muscle memory”…your fingers just follow what your brain tells them, maybe it’s just the physical repitition I dunno, but they just do it! But here’s what’s cool….you get to FEEL WHAT YOUR PLAYING AT THAT POINT! Your not staring at your fingers and the neck of the guitar anymore…you begin to “feel the music.”
I like that…..and it made me think reading your post ,E.

I think RELIGION sometimes is that muscle memory…..being a follower of Christ is ….FEELING THE MUSIC!
It should become who we are, not……. this thing we do.

  4. go and make
all i know is i was blind and now i see
freedom to let this world go and yet call others to the task
James said I am the Duolos of the Lord Jesus Christ
    slave of the most high
    and yet i am free
my master said take my yoKE it is light
    i am bought with aprice
    and yet i aM FREE
I OWE A DEBT THAT I CAN NO WAY PAY
MY MASTER SAID IT IS FINISHED
(ACCOUNTING TERM FOR PAID IN FULL)
    AND I AM FREE
    I AM DUOLOS
    AND I AM FREE
THE FLESH WILLS TO HAVE IT ‘S WAY
    THAT LEADS TO DEATH
MY GIFT FROM THE HOLY GHOST
    IS THE BREATH OF LIFE
    AND I AM FREE
AS PAUL HELD THE ROBES OF THOSE WHO STONED SIEPHEN HE BELIEVED HIS OBEDIENCE TO GOD WAS TRUE
TILL ON THAT ROAD HE SAW THE LIGHT AND THEN HE REALLY KNEW
THAT HE HAD BEEN SET FREE FROM THE BONDAGE OF RELIGION
LATER HE WAS STONED AND LEFT FOR DEAD HE SAW THIRD HEAVEN AND THEN ALL BETS WERE OFF
GOD FORBID HIM TELL US HOW SWEET IT IS !!!
LEST WE ALL THIS FLESH ABANDON
I LONG TO BE WITH CHRIST ,DEATH IS GAIN
YET I MUST TELL OTHERS TILL HE CALLS ME HOME.
IF THE ATHEIEST COULD TASTE THE SWEETNESS OF CHRIST AND HIS AGNOSTIC FRIEND GET OFF THE FENCE AND CHOOSE TO MAKE A STAND
THE ROAD WE WALK AND THE DAYS WE HAVE SOON RESEMBLE THE MASTERS PLAN
WHEN ALL ALONG THE GRACE HE GAVE
    AND GUIDANCE OF HIS HAND
SO IF PREEDOM IS WHAT WE WISH THEN THERE IS NO OTHER PLACE
THAN IN THR ARMS OF A LOVING GOD AWAITING THE DAY WE ARE FACE TO FACE.
AND HE THAT PAID MY DEBT AND FORGAVE MY ALL
AND OWNS ME BY ALL RIGHTS
HIS SLAVE I AM ITS TRUE DUOLOS TO THE END.
AND YET I AM FREE ?1?1
AND IN MY MIND I HEAR HIM SAY WELL DONE MY GOOD AND FAITHFUL DUOLOS

  5. Susie,

I’m with you. Jesus is all we have. To possess anything else would be less than the best and I choose Jesus. Rules, preferences, people, customs, traditions or anything else that gets in the way of our relationship to Him is a WASTE.

  6. Thanks Eric, and thanks everybody for the great responses.
This subject makes me think about what has become of Christmas. I hate what Christmas has become. People are constantly trying to tell us what Christmas is all about – being with family, giving, helping the needy, etc. While those are good things, THAT’S NOT WHAT IT IS ABOUT! It’s about Jesus – our Savior, our Redeemer, our King, our Creator, our Friend.
I vow that from now on, Christmas will be what it should be in my family – Relationship not Religion.
